ABOUT US

Sri Lanka Trekking Trails

I’m Fairoos, a licensed trekking guide based in Haputale, Sri Lanka, with over 14 years of experience leading travelers through the island’s most scenic trails. Since 2010, I’ve been organizing safe, authentic, and eco-friendly trekking experiences across Sri Lanka’s hill country.

As the founder of Sri Lanka Trekking Trails, my goal is to share the beauty, culture, and adventure of my homeland with every traveler.

OUR APPROACH

Empowering Trails. Enriching Communities. Preserving Nature.

At the heart of Sri Lanka’s mountains and valleys lies a story waiting to be walked. Our organization was founded with a simple, powerful purpose: to protect, manage, and promote Sri Lanka’s trekking trails in a way that benefits both people and the planet.

We are a committed team of trail developers, conservationists, community advocates, and outdoor enthusiasts working together to build a sustainable future for trekking tourism in Sri Lanka.

Through collaboration with local communities, government agencies, and tourism partners, we ensure that the trails remain well-maintained, environmentally friendly, culturally respectful, and economically beneficial to the people who live along them.

A Collaborative Approach to Stewardship

Sri Lanka Trekking Trails is guided by a voluntary Board of Directors with expertise in tourism, conservation, the tea industry, and community development. This diverse leadership ensures transparent, inclusive, and sustainable trail management.

Our day-to-day work is led by a small, passionate team, supported by local coordinators, guides, and volunteers across the country. Together, we’re building a strong, community-driven network to protect and promote Sri Lanka’s trekking trails for generations to come.

Our Work

Sri Lanka Trekking Trails is dedicated to promoting responsible trail use across all our routes. These trails are primarily designated for walking and trekking only, with limited exceptions for biking in specific areas where permitted under strict guidelines. All users are expected to follow our trail policies, which respect landowner agreements, environmental conservation principles, and community relationships.

SLTT also works with tea companiesprivate landowners, and tourism industry partners like SLAITO, SLITHM, and THASL to promote responsible tourism and enhance guiding standards.

Our efforts include:

  • Employing and training local trail guides
